Hybrid NW vs TRYKA

Both are hybrid fitness races built on the same promise: running plus functional stations, open to everyone, against one clock. TRYKA is the Irish-founded race league making its UK debut at Excel London on 5–6 September 2026. Hybrid NW is the UK's home-grown series — and races Manchester two weeks later, on 19 September. Here's how they actually differ, and who each one suits.

Where Hybrid NW is different

Race with a teenager — or a trio

TRYKA's divisions are genuinely broad — beginner races, adaptive categories, relays of two or four, age groups from 18 to 75+ — and its Fittest Clan family challenge lets 8–15 year olds join two adults free at some events. The difference is what young athletes get: Fittest Clan is a separate family fun event, while Hybrid NW's Hyteens puts a 13–15 year old on the main race course, paired with an adult, with scaled standards, a judge on every station and a real chip-timed result. Add Tribrid, a three-person tag team, and Hybrid NW has more ways to actually race together.

Priced per entry, not per person

TRYKA charges per athlete — its Dublin races run at around €110 per person, including doubles, so a pair pays roughly €220. Hybrid NW charges one price per entry: Doubles is £177 for the pair (about £88.50 each) and Tribrid is £217 for the whole team of three (about £72 each). The more of you on the start line, the further your money goes.

Photos and spectators are free

Every Hybrid NW ticket includes professional race photos at no extra cost — shot by professional photographers on course and delivered after the event — and spectators get in free. TRYKA sells spectator tickets (kids under 12 usually free) and handles photography through Sportograf, the same paid photo partner HYROX uses. Bring your whole gym to cheer at Hybrid NW; it costs them nothing.

A UK series, not a UK stop

TRYKA's home is Dublin — London is its first UK event, with the season finale in Lisbon. Hybrid NW is based here: a UK race calendar (with the odd international outing — we've raced in Spain too), 55 affiliate gyms whose members get 10% off and early ticket access, and a community that shows up race after race. If you want a season you can build around close to home, this is it.

What's the same

Honestly, a lot — and that's a compliment to both. TRYKA and Hybrid NW were both built as the accessible answer to hybrid racing: no cut-off times, scaled standards, adaptive athletes welcome, age-group podiums, first-timers everywhere, and an atmosphere closer to a festival than a qualifier. Both pair running with ergs, sleds, carries and lunges against one clock, and both finish with a sprint. If TRYKA's ethos appeals to you, Hybrid NW is the same idea — with a UK postcode.

Who each one is for

Choose TRYKA if you're chasing a league season with points across Dublin, London and Lisbon, or you want its 500m beginner format. Its accessibility-first approach is the real deal.

Choose Hybrid NW if you want a UK race with more ways to enter — a teenager, a trio, a mixed pair — free photos, free spectators and one honest price per entry, backed by a 55-gym community.

Or do both — September makes it easy

TRYKA races Excel London on 5–6 September 2026. Hybrid NW races Bowlers, Manchester on 19 September 2026 — two weeks later, same training block. Plenty of athletes will do both and compare the two for themselves. We'd genuinely encourage it.
